It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear friend and trusted member of the MCA.

William P. Tate, 69, of Saco, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Biddeford on Dec. 31, 1940, the son of Paul and Elizabeth McCallum Tate. He graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1959. Bill served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1963. Mr. Tate was superintendent of Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco for 41 years. He was Director of ICCFA, International Cemetery and Crematory Association and Director of New England Cemetery Association. Bill was current President of Cemetery Consumer Service Council and past President of New England Cemetery Association and Maine Cemetery Association. He was also a member of Saco Zoning Board and Biddeford and Saco Country Club. Bill loved his family and friends and always welcomed them into his home. He will be especially remembered for his great family lobster bakes. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paulette Poirier Tate of Saco; two sons, John W. Tate of Saco, Paul J. Tate of Saco; two grandchildren, Cody and DJ; one brother, Ernest Tate and his wife Sandra of Newburyport, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Mandy O’Leary and her husband James, Suzanne Poirier, Martha Cookson and her husband Gerry; one niece and several nephews.
